Unfortunately it wasn’t enough for a win today in the German championships. I wanted more and had more in my legs. My form is really good. In the end I was boxed in, had to roll and brake a little, and then get around the others and go for it again. You can’t win that way. Thanks to my friend and teammate Tony Martin. He rode like a moped today. Without him, there wouldn’t have been a sprint today. I am sure of that and thank him a lot. No one else did so much to help set up a bunch sprint.
Of course I am disappointed. It is never good when someone else crosses the finish line ahead of you. And especially not in your hometown.
Thanks to the organizers and the helpers The organization was tops. And I am happy that we could ride such a great championship in Thüringen and Erfurt.
I will now channel this anger so that I can bring it on the pedals in the sprints in the Tour.
