That was the most emotional win of my career. I cannot describe, how the team sacrificed itself for me and threw itself into the race. Sure, I knew this feeling. But this win was not to be taken for granted. It was unique. So much could have happened, and so I am happy that I won.

It was hard work for me, too. 40 km before the finish I signaled my guys that I felt good and that today could be a good one. But the finale was really difficult. When it went up to the 1000 meter mark and became very fast, the only thing for me was to hang on to the rear wheel. And the way that Dege and Koen brought me to the finish – respect. Thanks to all.

From there it was a waiting game and a bit of gambling. I didn’t want to go too early, but also didn’t want to get boxed it. Then I was on Sagan’s wheel and from there out I could do my sprint.

The awards ceremony was also very special. I was lost in my thoughts as I climbed the steps to the podium, looking down and thinking about the race. Then I looked to the side and saw Harry, Kate and William. They were laughing because I had not noticed them. But they were easy-going and very nice. With her green outfit, Kate made the fashion statement that she likes the sprinters best ;-)

And to you fans along the way: it is really crazy (in a positive way), what you all did!

To Cav, I can only say: I hope he is ok and that he is at the start tomorrow.

The evening is not over for my teammates. Holland plays this evening, and of course they must watch it. And naturally I will support them.

Oh yes, and Voigte won the mountain jersey. What a day!
