Today a great cycling trainer, companion and friend died. That is why I started today wearing a mourning armband. Jochen Wilhelm, as sprint trainer, led many athletes to Olympic success as well as German, World and European championships on the track. He is also the father of my manager. The news moved me greatly before the start. My condolences! Rest in peace, Jochen.
It is hard to add anything about the stage, so I will make it short. The day was hard. It was like everyone against each other. But I came through well and took some important points for the the green jersey at the intermediate sprint. Tomorrow a very difficult mountain stage is waiting for us and then is finally rest day.
